Preventing Coronavirus in Dagabo

The One Global Village team and partners in Mali are mobilizing to bring best-practices information and supplies to help prevent any incidence of COVID-19 in the village of Dagabo. Mali Director Koro recently brought and distributed large quantities of soap for all families in the village, disinfectant cleaning supplies for Siraba School, and masks, gloves, and additional hand sanitizer and supplies for Hawa Clinic and the Women’s Committee members who prepare the daily school lunch. Schools in Mali have been suspended for 3 weeks, but we are continuing the lunch program during that time, adding new protocols for food prep and serving.

Koro and team were joined by Dr. Konaté from Dr. Oumar’s clinic to share information and sensitize the community on how to prevent transmission of the virus. Dr.  Konaté and Wafo (nursing school and Siraba School graduate) met in groups with all people in the village, young and old, to explain and answer many questions. Koro shared information about the virus’ impact across Mali and world-wide, distributed educational materials in French gathered from WHO, the CDC, and Rotary International, and explained the use of the different soaps. Tieblecoro demonstrated proper handwashing techniques and timing – education that the students frequently receive but that also is critical for the adults to understand and practice. Sanou (CAP agent and middle school tutor) worked with the teachers who will continue as ambassadors reinforcing this knowledge and behaviors on a daily basis.

One Global Village is so thankful for the tireless efforts of our team on the ground in Mali, grateful to our partners and donors who step up to support this work, and most of all are thankful and hopeful for the continued health of students and families in Dagabo.  Stay safe, everyone.
