Urgent Request. COVID-19 in India.

Hello friends, volunteers and supporters of One Global Village’s India Mission. Our friends in Bhopal are in crisis and desperately need our help.

NPR April 22ndHow India Went From A Ray Of Hope To A World Record For Most COVID Cases In A Day
On Thursday, India confirmed nearly 315,000 new infections over the preceding 24 hours – the highest single-day tally for any country on any day since the pandemic began.

New York Times April 20th, India’s Second COVID Wave Is Completely Out Of Control.
At a crematory in the central city of Bhopal, residents reported having not seen as many cremations since 1984, when a gas leak from a Union Carbide pesticide plant in the city killed around 5,000 people.

We have been in regular contact with our partners at Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital, most recently this week, daily. Conditions are described as “horrific.” I am told people are dying because of lack of supplies. “Days and nights are spent arranging oxygen concentrators, beds, oxygen cylinders and medicine.” Due to the pandemic, prices for supplies are quickly rising, if available at all.

Sewa Eye Hospital is partnering/supporting Hospital Sant Hiraram Nagar in providing food, supplies, volunteers, medical staff and beds. They have also provided space at their KT Shahani School. They have one medical doctor and 6 nurses who provide care to 250 COVID-19 patients 24/7.

One Global Village would like to help our friends during this crisis. That’s where you come in. We are asking you to please contribute what you can to this fundraising effort. Every penny will be wired directly to Sewa Eye Hospital. Dr. Poonam Parwani will use these funds to purchase supplies, primarily oxygen (concentrators and cylinders too), medicine, food and beds. Any amount will help, $10, $100, $1000, or more. One Global Village has committed to contribute $5000. We’d love to send to India $10,000. next week. You can donate here, please. Please allocate to Medical and Educational Mission to India.

Our friend Nyana has been helpful in this effort as well. She’s received commitment from an India based manufacturer to donate 1000 N95 masks; she is also purchasing surgical masks for donation. Those will be shipped to Bhopal in the next few days.

Thank you in advance. While we’d really like to be in Bhopal helping our friends in need, we will do all that we can from afar.

Namaste,

Abigail & Tammy
