3 New Classrooms

We are so excited to share the news that, thanks to very generous donors Dianne Shumaker and Bob Southard and to the labor and dedication of the Dagabo School Committee, Siraba School has 3 more classrooms!  The newly constructed Shumaker Building means that now each level 1-6 has their own room – their own teacher, chalkboards, desks, supplies, walls to display art, and room to grow.  The new building is the same structure as the original school building: 3 classrooms connected by a wide, shaded veranda, facing the center courtyard. The men and older boys in the village contributed many hours digging the foundation and making mud bricks for the walls. A local mason and crew completed the structural elements. The rooms are all wired – someday we hope to be able to fund a solar system to enable lights in the rooms, so that students can meet with teachers, and so that the Mothers Group or Dagabo School Committee could hold their meetings later in the evening.  For now, there has been much celebrating in the Village at the completion of the new Shumaker Building!
