    Collaborating for specialized care

Providing needed surgical care in partnership with local doctors and medical teams

12 years ago, Clinique Paix (Peace Clinic) in Ouéléssébougou, Mali consisted of 2 small buildings within a walled courtyard, where Dr. Oumar Bagayoko and his staff provided surgical care using local anesthesia. That year Dr. Tammy Neblock-Beirne first performed surgery alongside Dr. Oumar, forging a partnership and friendship that grows each year – as does the Clinique. One Global Village runs an annual medical and educational mission in Mali, and Dr. Tammy works alongside Dr. Oumar and his staff to provide needed surgeries such as thyroidectomies at no charge. For several years we have contracted with an anesthesia team who come from Bamako and bring needed equipment, referred by a colleague of Dr. Oumar’s. Those doctors now bring their residents and have expressed that joining this collaborative, cross-cultural team who share medical insights and knowledge is a profoundly impactful learning experience.

Being able to provide needed care AND to learn from each other while working towards a shared purpose is a core value of One Global Village, made possible by deep respect and trust among global colleagues and friends.

In 2020 we launched our first mission to Bhopal, India, due to a similar relationship and respect between leaders of Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital and our US team forged over many years. A team of ENT, general, and urology surgeons worked alongside local partners to provide much needed, free surgical care to patients from Bhopal and surrounding communities.
