Ladies Lunching

The women are gathered, sitting on the ground, chopping vegetables or standing over a very large pot over an open fire, all to feed lunch to 170+ students daily. It’s probably not what you think of when you hear ladies lunching, but really, that’s what is happening. Much like we do here in the U.S., these women enjoy this time together that is filled with laughter, dancing, and the sharing of stores of family. At the same time, they’re filling the bellies of all the students and the littles that gather. This daily meal at Siraba School gives the students the nutrition they need to be productive in school, and is a project that the women take great ownership and gives them immense pride.

Lunchtime and lunch preparation is a highlight while in the village for our team. No translation is needed to join in on the cooking, helping to serve the smiling students and of course, enjoying a delicious, village-made, nutritious lunch.
