Kindergarten Comes to the Village

We are very excited to announce that Siraba School has been able to open a kindergarten!  The new Siraba School Kindergarten teacher is Batoma, and she provides a welcoming environment and early education for 35 young children at the preschool. She has some materials to start the year, and we look forward to providing more materials, art supplies, educational toys, and early reader books to the new preschool.

We learned last year that parents sometimes had to hold children back from starting at Siraba School, and also that some students had difficulty participating for a full day, as they were needed by their families to watch their younger siblings. The new kindergarten thus serves a dual purpose – primarily it readies younger children to start school, giving them a foundation of structure and learning to help them succeed once they begin 1st grade. The kindergarten also provides several hours each day relief for mothers and older siblings, so those older children can continue to attend Siraba School.
